I have this unit, now as a back up player since I purchased a Pioneer Elite 47ai. I is a good unit, but I found it could not play the newer DVD-A discs because of dated firmware or perhaps changes to the authoring software which seem to have taken placed in 2003-2004.

There was one upgrade, which would have cost me more to have installed than buying the Toshiba SD 4960, which I ended up doing. That's another story. The discs I had problem with were some of the later Silverline Classics releases with the Utah Orchestra, and two Verdi Operatic pieces. If these all work for you great, I certainly liked the player for its DVD-V and DVD-A capabilities, it has been quite dependable.
