i only just found out panasonic will be releasing in a near future a DVD-Audio player (DVD-S97) with faroudja deinterlacing and HDMI output, together with a matching digital receiver (XR-70).okay, so the news has been out on various forums for a few months now but i didn't notice the significance till recently: this will allow a completely digital DVD-Audio path all the way to the speaker outputs. For a combined price less than US$500 this might be a killer budget DVD-Audio setup!
I must admit, I am very tempted. even though i already have three systems.

Follow Ups:
It was originally supposed to be out in April and was shown as one of the audio/video shows in Jan. of this year. I myself am excited about this as well, if for nothing else to cut down on the rat's nest of cables behind my equipment rack. ;-)

I think the XR45 with Pioneer 563A running redbook via digital coax stands up to DVD-A and SACD run via RCAs. Dolby Pro-logic 2 will kick in proccessing a stereo source into very likeable 5 channel.5.1 24\96K full digital would be killer indeed!!
Hopefully the XR70 will have more power. The XR45 on 88db speakers runs out of steam.
One will found lots of discussions there both about upcoming and already released players. Not that I'm shopping, mind you! :)
