If your monitor shows "downsample" it sounds to me like the DVD player is trying to send a digi signal out. There may be a feature on your player that allows you to switch the digi out to "on" or "off."

BTW this disc plays the stereo layer fine in my Toshiba SD-4900. I am only using the stereo outputs, hooked up to my preamp.
