  Assuming you are copying non-copyrighted material, like live concert recordings of bands that allow taping, you should need only extract the material to your HD as an ISO image and write it back out to the DVD. It does not require any encoding or authoring tools. I've successfully done this to copy personal video recordings on DVD. I assume that DVD-A will be no different.
