"Have a read and let us know what you think."
Hi Brian:
I saw and read the review first thing yesterday morning. It was an excellent review. The fact that the Lux91 Max is competitive with the twice as expensive Border Patrol is high praise indeed! The only question I have left is how much higher the performance can be taken with the highest quality tubes (ex. vintage WE 310A).

Yes agreed. Things I liked about the review:
1. An amp I've long admired - The Border Patrol - is used as the reference. This amp is famous for it's gutsy presentation and is familiar to the listeners. This set the bar high and gave meaningful context to the listening impressions.
2. A panel of listeners participate. We have found with our own experiences evaluating prototypes that group listening dynamics are very different from that of a single listener. To give an example: what one listener may perceive as stridency may be interpreted as honesty by another. This provides motivation to get at a truth that might be missed by the single listener. We have found this sort of 'dialectic' to be very beneficial in the development of new products.
3. No gush. Just descriptive words about specific sounds and tracks of music. Easy to reproduce in our own system and hear what the reviewer is describing.
I guess we'll need to do some tube rolling to answer your questions. I do have at hand a pair of WE300B and 310a with both fine mesh and standard mesh types.
Chris mentioned in the review that he will also be trying some different types.

I'll be keen to hear what transpires. Also, to learn how TJ Carbons perform, if you have any about.

In the coming weeks we will do some rolling. I need to do it on a day when more ears are here. I have the WE300B, TJ graphites (new version), all the meshplates, ST/globe, an assortment of VA nickel plates and a rare set of their graphite plates and meshplates. I think we have a pr of Svetlana here too.

My WE's are getting long in the tooth.
The original TJ 'mesh' globes (first production run) did not have the top mica and are therefor a bit mircophonic as are the ST shape KR's I have.
With horns, vs. the open baffle speakers I used back in the day, the mircophonics might not matter, as horns are very directional and don't send much energy in the direction of the amps.
Wish I could be there. Any chance someone could film it!? ;^)
