I have been tube rolling with my modified Ella. The improvements have been incredible, occasionally.

I went to triode mode because I understand power and sonic joy are not always synonyms, and the two pathways do not necessarily lead to the same seat in the Garden of Earthly Delights.

It is just silly to argue which seat is better. Just find one and enjoy what you may. You may even stand. I cannot. Sigh.

I have been collecting tubes and other bits of audio wonder for over a decade. Since I am in bed, except for simple worldly journies to the doctor, grocery and domestic utilities, I have gathered much more than I have listened to, thankfully. Now, as my fortunes dwindle and my "spare" time multiplies, I search out things to do which are easy to implement and bring some joy.

Friends and correspondents have furnished me with many 6DJ8, 6SN7 and EL34 samples from the last several decades. Each brings its joy to my ears and heart.

Ella has proven herself capable of supporting quite a nice test bed of ear pleasure.

I have other amps which may , in time, prove equal, but, no longer have the energy to give them a fair trial. Maybe, one day, I will get healthier. I cannot say I am feeling deprived ;)

  I put a pair of Svetlana 6N1P instead of Amperex 6922.

    yeah, i liked those 6n1p in that amp.
