I want to replace some resistors with tantalums but i cant get the exact values. is it ok to replace an exact uf match with a resistor rated at a higher voltage? ie a 1/2 watt for a 1/4 watt?
but what i really want to know is can i replace a 249kohm 1/4 wat metal film resistor with a 250kohm 1/2 watt tantalum? it is for a tube amp...
also can i use the 30g silver wire as internal hookup wire for speakers?
thanx
1/2 for 1/4w is OK and 250k for 249k is well within tolerances for a tube amplifier.
I've tried the 30g silver for speaker drivers but found it very bright. However there are some who use 30g even for speaker cable and like it.
Maybe someone will post their experiences.

thanx for the info! what do you recommend for speaker hook up wire?
If silver works in your system then 1mm soft annealed silver wire would serve. For maximum microphonics damping (usually a concern for inside box wiring) it's hard to beat the Gotham cable.

ok great! im learning a lot! ok is it all right to sub a tantalum for a carbon comp?
one more:) sorry for all the questions! can i sub kiwame for wirewound (5w) resistors? thanx
if the resistance or capacitance (check whether polar or non-polar) are within tolerance, and as long as the voltage or power rating is equal to or exceeds that of the original, then you can sub ... but be aware that this will change over-all tone/sound. but then, this is what diy is all about ... hehehe
