Using a dvps 9000es sacd/dvd player with huge success-I also was using it with a scd777es, and tho it had better bass, the 9000 was very close with everything else.
I use a Parasound Belt Drive transport with the Ack dAck and the synergy is astounding! I highly recommend it.
The dAck seems to respond to very nice transports, but can also be quite impressive with some older/cheaper used units as well. My approach was to find a fairly nice, but used older unit (I ended up with a Teac Esoteric P500) and tweak it a bit. After getting rid of the captive power cord (Furutech IEC), getting a VenHaus Flavor 4 PC and adding in some Auricaps to the PS...it's sounding quite awesome. I'm also using the Ack IC and digital cable both of which are quite nice and extremely reasonably priced.
Take a look at Chris Own's comment about floating grounds and hash in relation to DVD units.
Did you try the unit without connecting the Video cable to your TV? Their is also a jumper JP1 inside your dAck, that Chris mentioned, that you could short to see if it solves your problems.
I'm using an AC line filter for the transport and am getting good results with the dAck. Could it be that the noise problem is due to something causing noise currents in the ground side of your DVD. If you plug the DVD directly into the wall by itself does the issue go away ?
Don't have my dAck! running through a home theater system so that wasn't the problem. Tried grounding the 3950 but that didn't fix the problem. I think I just got a bad sample of the 3950 so I shipped it back-now waiting for another 3950. I think I'll pick up a 3960 at Sears tomorrow and see how that works. Thanks for all your ideas!
