Some of us would actually like to know if this is in the cards for us with regard to cost.

...because this is a hobby for me.An instruction manual, detailed BOM, least cost JIT suppliers, equivalent component substitutions, hi-pot testing, batch sample qualification, treatse on soldering technics, unstuffed PCB, etc... will not be forthcoming.
Cost constrained design is what I do for a living.
I leave that at work.
This is DIY, folks.
I'm posting my experiences in the hope that it might light a few sparks of interest and prod a few to DIY a thing or two gleened from the posts.
If you wish to absolutely duplicate what I have done (not advised), you can figure up the costs on your end, as far as you wish to go from desciptions of components used. But since my DAC is in a constant state of refinement (parts in and parts removed), and you will be left in the dust if you believe the design is static.
It took a leap of faith to get here.
Bean counters need not apply.

Steve,As one who has been up to his ears in bank debts to fund audio product development, I think that I can safely say that in our way, we probably are all bean counters. The only difference is in how and where you wish to split hairs (grin).
Whether the budget per unit is $1000, $10,000 or $100,000, cost constrained is cost constrained.

$958.00 each. You need two of them so that adds up to, oh about, $1917. and change. Chump change for some, 10 years of wages for others, its all positional.ja its sunny, with a light breeze in Tucson, AZ
that some people are considerate. I couldn't care less about Steve's running cost, but the price of the major and proprietary hardware items is, I'd guess, something that is of interest to all of us that have read the entirety of these threads.- Pat
