A new DAC for use with your TEAC PD-H600 as a digital transport would be the most favorable option, IMO. With a budget up to $1K, there are many high-performance options to choose from, such as the Gustard DAC-X20 DAC.

+1 on Duster's comment. I use the same Teac PD H600 in conjunction with a Line Magnetic 502CA DAC. I'm not 100% sure the Yamaha CDP (other than SACD capability) would beat the Teac. Might end up being a somewhat pricey move sideways. I'd definitely go the Teac + DAC approach.
The only issue is the extra cost of cabling involved in digital front end separates. The need of a high-performance digital cable and power cord tips the price up, but it's a necessary expense. Otherwise, the digital interface and AC delivery aspects can become the weak link in the signal chain if sub par products are implemented.
