I"m asking for some recommendations. I've been away from audio for about 4 years after we adopted 2 sisters from Russia. Anyway, I'm wanting to upgrade my digital source with is a TEAC PD-H600. I'm considering a Yamaha CD-S1000 (I like Yamaha gear since the 70s) to go with my CA800 integrated or should I get a new DAC since the TEAC is a d ecent t-port doesn't have a lot of hours.Budget up to $1K.Advice and recommendations appreciated.

Dac would make most sense. Look for something used.
CDs just like vinyl are not dead. If you spend a lot optimizing your computer setup and use a cheap CD player as a transport, the rips will sound better. But get a top quality transport, CDs can sound better.
I see way too many people making statements as absolutes, when there are so many variables.
That said, getting a dac with a usb connection will give you many more options, than a $1k CD player.
Start with a dac, with a decent coax cable or Lifatec optical cable. Later as budget allows get a decent usb cable and start experimenting with Tidal and rips of your CD collection.
Zacster,
I can highly recommend the Blue Circle.I've seen the 507NB going for $1-1.1K.I bought the 509 a few years back and as the system has improved or changed, the BC has kept pace.
I am currently considering an upgrade from 509 to 507NB,as funds allow.
As Duster mentions:extra cables and power cords. But then you can fine-tune the set-up to your liking.

A new DAC for use with your TEAC PD-H600 as a digital transport would be the most favorable option, IMO. With a budget up to $1K, there are many high-performance options to choose from, such as the Gustard DAC-X20 DAC.

+1 on Duster's comment. I use the same Teac PD H600 in conjunction with a Line Magnetic 502CA DAC. I'm not 100% sure the Yamaha CDP (other than SACD capability) would beat the Teac. Might end up being a somewhat pricey move sideways. I'd definitely go the Teac + DAC approach.
The only issue is the extra cost of cabling involved in digital front end separates. The need of a high-performance digital cable and power cord tips the price up, but it's a necessary expense. Otherwise, the digital interface and AC delivery aspects can become the weak link in the signal chain if sub par products are implemented.
Go with a DAC. It'll improve any source, not just the CD. CDs are obsolete anyway. Put them on the computer and never play them again. With a DAC you can play from the CD, the computer or stream on either the computer or separate device.
That said, I'm perfectly happy with my Audioquest Dragonfly Black for $100. I'm sure you can spend more and get better sound, but 24/96 from this thing blows away CD anyway.
