This is a very good ~$2000 DAC, until you add a decent external power supply. Then it becomes a great DAC that can hold its own against probably anything below $10k.
With an external power supply, every sound becomes completely pure and resolution increases. Phenomenal!
The one in the image came from eBay. Search for "Finished 100VA Ultra Low Noise linear Power supply". Order 12V with 5.5 x 2.5mm plug.
Happy listening!

the sales pitch says. These PSs all oscillate badly at just over 10MHz. I can cure it by bypassing Vcc at the NE5534 legs, and suppressing what is left with a 4.7u pp capacitor at the output. You 'll to measure yours first.
Basically, this is a faulty superregulator design and should not be used without modification.
You might be right. It sure makes the DAC sound good, though. A definite and significant improvement.
If you know of a compatible, "audiophile grade" PS, please let us know.
Thanks!
By chance have you put a scope on it and looked at ripple/noise levels?
Hi Mike,
No. I can tell you that the sonic improvement with the external power supply is large, meaning that it takes just a few minutes to hear the difference.
Happy listening!

with digital players as well. I use an HD-Plex linear to power a Sonore µRendu.
Size-wise, it positively dwarfs the player - black box at right vs silver unit above. :)
