try an experiment. put a 1 inch square piece of scotch tape on both sides of center hole of a cd, don't cover the hole, just about 1/16" next to it.
see if the player still makes noise. if it doesn't you might be able to bend the clamp mount down a little to take up the slack.

I don't actually have the noise problem. (I have read about it. There was a factory fix, but it is no longer available. My machine is having a lot of trouble reading disks, where my other CD/DVD players have not problem with the same disk. I have obtained another working Toshiba machine that I think has the same or similar spindle motor. I was planning a swap.
