hi all,
i found a Toshiba SD-9200 DVD-A player at a swap meet for $40 this past weekend. couldn't pass it up. what a beast of a machine! so far, the transport is dead quiet (known issue with dampeners).
anyway, is there a way to circumvent the "auto shut-off" feature which turns the machine off after 20 minutes of non-use? that has to be one of the dumbest things i've ever seen in a high-end piece of digital gear. don't they know we audio folks like to keep our digital gear on 24/7?

Nice! score.
Here is a link to the manual you can read. While the player is respected calling it high end is an error.

Thanks. The unit came with the manual.
I have theta gear too. Don't know, the Toshiba sure doesn't look low end when you Crack it openopen.
I didn't say it was low end, I said it wasn't high end. I know it well, we were Toshiba dealers and I sold plenty including one to my Aunt. Beast of a chassis and $2K list. I think we paid 1200 wholesale for them. Good units and well thought of as I said. I couldn't find an override for the auto shut off mentioned in the manual on my hand held device.

Stereophile class A.
I have a Toshiba SD-9200 and have had the top off of it. I would call it high end, with the exception of the weak spindle motor. Mine unfortunately has failed, but the player sounded quite good on redbook and HDCD when it was working. It was a Stereophile class A component, if that is worth anything.

try an experiment. put a 1 inch square piece of scotch tape on both sides of center hole of a cd, don't cover the hole, just about 1/16" next to it.
see if the player still makes noise. if it doesn't you might be able to bend the clamp mount down a little to take up the slack.

I don't actually have the noise problem. (I have read about it. There was a factory fix, but it is no longer available. My machine is having a lot of trouble reading disks, where my other CD/DVD players have not problem with the same disk. I have obtained another working Toshiba machine that I think has the same or similar spindle motor. I was planning a swap.

Keep us posted- Dave.
How is your project going- Dave?
