Lifatec Silflex glass.
If you want to pay more for glass cable, you can. These guys make glass fiber cable for a living and sell it to some/many of the high end audio cable companies anyway.
I'm using one a 6 ft cable from my Mac Mini to my DAC. My DAC is good to 96K while the Mac Mini output claims to be good for 192K. This cable will handle that with ease, even at longer lengths.
One note of caution. If you are hooking up to a TOSLINK 'mini' connection like the one on an Apple headphone jack, DO NOT USE A MINI ADAPTER, use a cable with a 'mini' connection at one end. Light is lost/reflected at each connection and the adapter can be a souce of that light loss/reflection.

That is a good cable. I would suggest that beppe61 use that one, or glass at least. I find that plastic generally sounds a bit "dull" to me, maybe that could be used to advantage though in some cases.
That said, I do not prefer Toslink *with my gear*, but I don't mind it. And to be fair, the Toslink interface at some of my sources is not the greatest, kind of an afterthought I think. I typically only use Toslink when forced to then, here, like with my TVs where that's the only digital output.
The Lifatec is much better sounding that another glass fiber that I tried. This is definitely the one to get.
I found that my satellite radio sounds best from fiber, where as my old Sony CD transport sounds best with coax.
as are the TOSLINK transmitter and receiver on the given gear being connected.
As it turns out, Apple seems to use decent TOSLINK transmitters in even the Airport Express. Certainly the do in the Mac Mini, or so it seems.
OTOH, if the DAC the signal is going to has a crappy receiver, all is lost and the best cable is of little use.
Hi and thanks a lot for the very helpful advice.
Good to know of a good cable with reasonable price
I am a little worried about the optical connectors on the units' rear panels.
They are almost always made of soft plastic and tend to lose the grip.
I understand that matching is critical with toslink.
I even remember a coupling gel to be used on cable terminations ?
Thanks again.
Kind regards,
bg
