I've always used stand-alone digital recorders beginning with DAT recorders in 1991 to CD-R recorders in 1998 to the hard drive Alesis Masterlink in 2003 and now the flash card DA-3000 DSD recorder. I rarely use my computer for streaming anymore because I own an OPPO BDP-105D digital player along with the DA-3000, both of which play digital files directly from USB flash drives. I store all my music on multiple external USB hard drives while copying playlists onto high capacity USB flash drives for playback.
Best regards,

John:
I know you like the DSD conversion of your DA-3000. Do you find the PCM conversion of similarly high quality (and better that that of your OPPO)?
Thanks,
Jeremy
I have yet to do a PCM recording on the DA-3000. However, the Masterlink is limited to 24/96 whereas the DA-3000 can record at 24/192. The Masterlink was exceedingly accurate, though. I suspect both are equally accurate in PCM.
I know, John -- you told me that last week. But I wonder if other circuitry in the DA-3000 (other than the PCM DAC) might make the sound better/worse than that of the Alessis? Might the DA-3000's design/execution make its PCM performance as good as you find its DSD performance to be?
Don't go to any trouble on my account, though -- just curious.
And thanks thanks.

Yes, I prefer the sound from the DA-3000 for PCM playback compared to the sound from the OPPO. I use a Stello U3 USB Link to connect my computer to the DA-3000 and I believe it sounds noticeably better than playing PCM files through the OPPO BDP-105D.

Thanks -- for some reason the Asylum never sent me a copy of this. I've got it now, though, and that's exactly the information I was seeking.
