Hi gang:
I'm considering replacing my first generation DacMagic with a Micromega MyDAC in my primary system, which is all tube electronics into Sonus Faber Liuto monitors. I am using the USB port on an older Macbook to connect the DAC.
I would then use the DacMagic in my secondary desktop system- speakers are Audioengine A5's.
My question is: will the Micromega MyDac be a noticeable improvement or more of a lateral move? I am new to streaming and the DacMagic is my first DAC.
Thanks very much.

Well, the verdict is in- Micromega arrived a few minutes ago, and is now performing exquisitely in my system. The improvement is not subtle. The MYdac is, simply-stated, a superb piece of equipment. I will move the Cambridge unit to my secondary system.
I am very happy with my decision. YMMV.
Have you read the reviews on Amazon? Doesn't seem like it would be a big step up at all...

I've read a few reviews of the first-generation Cambridge DacMagic, which is what mine is. I've decided to purchase the Micromega MyDac. I need a DAC for my secondary system anyway, and can use the Cambridge unit there. From what I've been able to learn on my own, and speaking to a couple of people familiar with both units, the MyDAC promises to be an improvement. I like that the Micromega does not require an external power supply.
Plus it's on sale, and my budget is limited. I'm not expecting orders of magnitude improvement, but ya' never know in this game.
I have one. I found that using warmer sounding cabling (PC/IC) meshes well. I recommend using a decent PC in lieu of the one that comes with it. You can get a Non-polarized C7 to C14 adapter or a PC with a Non-polarized C7 end.
