It was the older version. I just read some very good things about the new one. Does it use the Field Gate Array style DAC? The ability for future programing is such a plus.

...I don't think it is intended to be field programmable by customers.
One of the main benefits of the FPGA is that it allows the designer to code and reprogram logic internal to the FPGA and easily make changes to his design w/o the expense of committing his design to a 'hard coded' ASIC which costs a fortune to have manufactured with a long lead time. In addition to basic gates and reconfigurable interconnects, FPGAs also come with some Logic Elements offering various "pre-built" functions like DSP, memory blocks, protocol converters, etc.
CPLDs are typically used for smaller designs, while FPGAs are for larger designs.
Nobody mentioned user programmability???
It takes 500 hours to break in the MB DAC?
Just placed my order for an upgrade. 500 hrs is a real long time (62.5 days at 8 hrs per day). Does the preamp and power amp need to be on downstream? Running tube gear.
My comment on 500 hours is for their Directstream DAC. Not sure about break-in on the smaller DAC. But, NO. Nothing else needs to be on. Just put a file on repeat.
