Ivan - I too have a Master 11 (great isn't it..). I use it with a SB Touch and a Wyred Remedy (with it's own linear PSU). The Touch definitely sounds better with the Remedy.
Follow Ups:
Getting pretty good performance with USB even just streaming from a MacBook Air.
Master 11 produces a much better sound than any other DAC I have had in my system. Always preferred the R2-R ladder DAC sound signature, or rather lack of sound signature for digital (Audio Note, etc.).
Uptone REGEN should be here early this next week so I'll see what happens then and see if the REGEN does indeed clean up the USB as most of the problems should be source related with the Amanero USB> I2R card in place.
I tried the USB via the Touch but it doesn't sound as good as the coax. I don't think the Touch's USB output is very good and I plan to try with a computer soon.
Hooked up cheap laptop via USB (cheap cable), using Jriver. That sounds on the whole better than SB Touch, but has the feeling it could do with some tweaking. Has really good musicality, detail and ambience retrieval, but the Touch is giving more pinpoint imaging.
I think it's a good idea to go USB - I2S (like the amanero board) rather than USB-SPDIF as some systems do.
I would REALLY like to try a USB> I2S box that would have a RJ45 output compatible to the RJ45 input jack on the rear of the Master 11 but am unsure of the need to mess with the wiring?
Have you tried it?
I have the amanero. If you look at the wiring, the amanero's I2S output goes into the master11 board right next to the one from the RJ45, both into the same kind of chip. So what you effectively have with the amanero is just what you mention - USB-I2S box, but mounted inside the M11. Can't see any real advantage of putting it outside the box.
Very impressive sound from the USB without even trying to optimize it (yet).
Hmm, looking at the amanero schematic, it looks like it's powered from the USB port. I would have guessed otherwise. But there may be jumpers on the board that let you power from external source (ie the M11). I'll have to have a closer look at the board itself. It it is powered from the USB port then there's a potential upgrade. (powering it from another psu)
Not our King Wa!
This is a board built for King Wa but licenses from AMANERO. Note the difference between the Audio-GD version pictured above and the one on the Amanero Web site linked below.
From the Audio-GD web site:
"In Audio-gd products, the Amanero Combo 384 have not power supply from computer for the less disturb."
That's why I was surprised. Good to know.
Also the Audio-gd version has much better capacitors on the board. And different resistors.
