I'm looking to connect a set of Bose 151 Environ Speakers to a basic flat screen Emerson tv. that only has a coaxial out. The Bose has Pos/Neg for speaker wire, but my grandfather (who passed away) has them both wired to a single RCA (so each speaker has a single male RCA, with a female-to-female adapter). I have no idea how he hooked these things up - they were in a boat for a long time, and my grandpa had mad skills between being a musician and an electrician.
Is it possible to hook these to the tv? If so, what adapters/amp would I need? And what on earth is up with the RCA hookup... is that usable or do I need to take the set-up off?
I'm attempting this for my grandma because apparently the speakers have a nice sound, and she misses having music. I would love to get her a receiver and do a proper hook-up, but I can't afford it. So please, real answers, I'd really appreciate making her happy. Thanks, Zella

Does the TV have PCM stereo output option? This is the first thing you need to figure out by accessing the setting menu on the TV.
There should already be an amplifier connected to BOSE 151. You need to figure that out. Does the amp have addition line level audio input? Does it have digital audio input?

I bought a coax/toslink to RCA converter to get sound from the TV, but I was using powered loudspeakers, computer speakers, to be exact. It worked out well. However, too many wires for an older person if something ever went wrong. They have sound bars that do it all, though.
Thank you for the info/advice!!
It is unusual for a TV to have a coax out and not have RCA outs, so before you do anything, make sure this is actually an out and not an antenna in. Assuming that the Coax out is a channel 3/4 signal, you need a RCA/RF modulator box. I see them in thrift stores every time I go.

He may mean coaxial digital audio out. But we actually need a good bit more info.

For some reason I was thinking F-connector, but when I looked again, he said coax, which could be F or RCA. Hopefully he will clarify.

This is the coaxial out.
And the rest of the choices.
Sorry about the crappy pictures - my phone isn't the best.
If you need more info, please ask. I'll check more often.

You can use the Audio L/R jacks to connect to a stereo amplifier. (You can also use the Digital Coax to an amp with a digital input but that will cost more.) Almost any stereo amp will do but here is a really inexpensive one:
