Hello.
Been out of this stuff for a while and I now find myself in need od a DAC. Not wanting to spend much north of $500, and not knowing what's good nowadays, I find myself thinking of picking one of these up again (had one several years ago).
Are they still a worthy consideration?
I'm planning on using it with my Squeezebox Touch in a headphone rig.
Thanks.

I still use my A324. Mostly for playing PC files from iTunes or Pandora.
If you don't need high bitrates, DSD, or USB, it will work fine. It is a well-built solid piece that sounds decent for bit rates up to CD quality.
If you don't mind not having the latest & greatest, and can get one without dropping a lot of money, it would be worth the purchase.
Newer DACs will give you more bit rates, additional connection options, and "better" sound - but will often cost more. Unless, you go with a Schiit Bifrost, or something similar.
Just my $.02.

System matching is more important than latest DAC chips in my experience. I traded a $1200 benchmark for a $300 cambridge audio dacmagic and much happier with the dacmagic.
The benchmark had hot and sizzly digititis with my amp and speakers at the time (Transcendent T8-LN OTL and Proac D15)
but then again, if you want to process 24/192 pcm or DSD files you may be out of luck with that dinosaur.
