Fact of the matter, NOBODY but a true psychic could tell you. If the player was lightly used for the time owned, it could still have hundreds of hours to go.
If it has simply SAT for a decade plus? Might last 15 minutes. Or have a PS Cap problem?
A good power surge would damage the unit in unknown ways.
But the OTHER fact is that a laser will only last So-Long. Replacing such a part is getting more and more problematic. Demand is low. Cost is medium to high and FEW to NO spares are available. That means cost to fix probably exceeds cash value when running perfectly. Stuff also fails for some reason AFTER such a fix.
Don't get me wrong, for sentimental reasons alone, if I could get my FD1000 fixed, I WOULD.
Too much is never enough

I agree! I am just trying to think positive that's all! I have had good luck with CD Players from the early to mid 80's that I have had for several years & work just fine! They also sound from horrible to very good sounding to my ears! I am hoping the same for this CD Player!
Thanks! for the update.
