Hi there,
anyone had any experience with this DAC or seller ?
It kinda looks like what I'm after.
Any idea how this would compare with the Audio Note(UK)level 2 DAC product which use a similar output valve & digital input.

Johno,While $499 looks like a bargain price should you happen to really like the sound, it is not necesarily a small amount should you happen to dislike the sound. We audiophiles are often faced with the choice to purchase some piece of equipment, new or used, unheard simply on it's looks, or on it's brand reputation, or on someone else's opinion of it. I try only to take such a risk if the equipment either readily lends itself to being re-sold for a good portion of the price I paid, or if the amount spent was small enough that I would be comfortable having to eat the loss. The only equipment that I didn't eventually sell was equipmemt which I made myself.
The lifelong quest for better sound drives the need to re-sell our existing equipmemt at some point. Such resale can recoup a good amount of our initial expenditure or it can result in significant loss. I suggest keeping in mind the reality of this eventual resale cycle before making purchase decisions.

One thing I noticed. It does not have an USB input, only SPDIF. If you wanted to feed it from a computer you would need a USB to SPDIF converter. Have not heard it but I do like the R2R ladder dac chip they are using and Non oversampling. I have heard the Teredac Chamelion which uses 16 of those chips in parallel but no tube output. In fact there is no analog output on the Chamelion. Output is taken directly off of the dac chips. The Teredac is $500 and sounds like a good turntable. The audionote dacs are more expensive

Hi Alan,
yep only after SPDIF input.
The same chap has another DAC very similar < $100
Looks pretty much the same except Soviet 6N23P tube & different output cap
Thanks for the alternate options
Cheers Johno
Interesting offerings. I like the chip and the transformer usage. A bit of a gamble, though. Let us know if you pull the trigger.
