The transport just died on my Esoteric DV 60. I'm hoping to find a way around buying one from Teac/Esoteric, whose parts are quite expensive.
The transport, I believe, was sourced from Pioneer, do any of you know what model, and would the stock Pioneer work, or did Esoteric modify it to suit their needs?
Thanks much,
Dan

Dan-
another thought, hopefully other owners (past, present), can get a list going of all of Esoteric spinners that are no longer supported.
Dan-
this is a killer player, please keep me posted, as you figure out the exact
issue and possible fix. Contact Esoteric as needed for consultation.
Try defining the exact issue. Drawer not opening, disc not spinning. Disc not being read....
The transport, like all in the Esoteric range, was not sourced wholly as an OEM item from another manufacturer such as Pioneer NB: you can always tell a Pioneer transport as the disc is inserted upside down compared to other players. After all Esoteric's parent company Teac, is one of the biggest remaining silver disc transport manufacturers in its own right. The transport in the DV60 is the Teac VOSP.Teac have discontinued manufacture of all transports that support SACD except for their most expensive Neoteric range. This is due to the limited remaining availabilty of the Sony sourced SACD decoding chip. There is now no universal player or transport in their current range.
Please try to establish if the entire transport needs replacing or if it just a component such as the optical pickup unit. This will cost you less and is a feasible fix. Finding a replacement complete transport may prove difficult in current circumstances. Perhaps Esoteric itself or their local distributor has a stock retained solely for repairs, perhaps not.

Thanks to those that posted in response to my plea for help. I did manage to get the transport to work again, although it's still having issues, that is, the tray shudders on the way out, and back in again.
I have to help it in and out, so I'm not sure what's wrong, perhaps just lubrication is needed. Also, I installed a new optic ass'y a couple of months or so ago, and it worked fine up until now. Another point is when the mechanism is activated sans tray, it works smoothly, with no apparent problem.
I've yet to contact Esoteric see if they have replacement units.
I'll post when I know more.
Thanks, Dan
It could just be the belt to the tray. I've done that. It is a fairly easy fix if you are mechanically inclined.
Dave
I look forward in reading about your progress- Dan.
Can anyone confirm wether or not Esoteric has abandoned parts for certain spinners ?
That sounds much more hopeful. Drawer issues are not uncommon and are usually fixable. I doubt that you will need to find and pay for a complete transport.
As unclestu says it can be a belt. Worn cogs are also known to cause problems. These can be difficult to source if non-standard (I am thinking of a well known issue with the Sony SCD-1 mech). Or it may be just that something is out of alignment.
Here is a link to a brief video on a similar problem but with a Sony player. Maybe it will help or at least may provide some degree of confidence.
Good luck and I look forward to hearing about your progress.
Update on mechanism/tray problem: After viewing some of video on youtube I was directed to, I found, and applied, some light synthetic grease with teflon.
The good news is the fray will now go in and out without the shuddering it was doing, but the motor that powers the tray seems to be laboring, and is a bit slower than it was. I didn't take it apart to find out if there is a belt, but I don't recall seeing one when I replaced the optics a few months ago. I don't know how long the motor that powers the tray will last, but it is working better.
That's how things stand now. Thanks to all of you for your help. Regards,
Dan
Thanks! for the update- Dan.
Yesterday, I was able to contact the parts department at Teac America, and asked about the availability of a new transport. I was told they are on order, and should arrive sometime this month. The price is less than expected, $297.27.
I think I will call them again, and see if I can reserve one, they may not have ordered too many, and I don't want to miss out.
Regards, and thanks,
Dan
Looking for an update- Dan?
My last post covered pretty much the outcome of the situation with the transport on the DV 60. To recap, using light grease with teflon, I was able to free up the tray so it is usable, though I still have to assist it with a gentle push both directions.
I was able to purchase a new transport mechanism from Teac America, and have it stored so that I will be prepared if, and when, the transport dies.
Thanks and regards,
Dan
Thanks! for sharing- Dan.
keep me posted, especially, if you have to replace the drive/laser assembly.
Fantja, ironically, a couple of months after I bought the player, the laser went out on it. I ordered, and installed, the laser assembly, which has worked flawlessly ever since.
The ironic part of this tale is, the new transport assembly cost less ($297.27, and it includes the laser assembly, versus $320 for just the laser assembly). I'm trying to make the existing transport last as long as I can before switching to the new one, just out of spite.
Regards,
Dan
The most important factor is that TEAC/Esoteric stands behind these products by offering parts + service!
Oh yes, Dan-
I would wait for the current drive/transport to totally die off, prior to any servicing.
Much Thanks! Dan.
LOL drawer issues are typically a belt hidden under the front of the drawer. Power off. Drawer open, pull drawer to limit and you'll see a limiter in one of the holes on the rear. Open the trigger and pull drawer out n you can access the belt, usually under dust cover of sorts.
