Try the simple fix first..use a damp q-tip (I use diluted Simple Green,
Awesome, Windex, or rubbing alcohol) and gently scrub
the lens, use the other end to dry. Just blowing air on it
won't really get the film off. Other than that I have no clue...
maybe possible brain problem, no fix.Let me know what happens...

Yeah, this doesn't sound like a simple fix.
I posted on DIY Audio. Reply suspects power supply or power interference. Will see what can be done but I think I am out of my league here technically.
I guess I can try contacting TEAC.

I've taken a chance and ordered a new laser with mechanism assembly. For what it costs, it's worth a try. The unit uses a Sony KHM-313aaa. We'll see how that goes. Probably take a couple weeks before the part arrives. Thank you everyone for your input.
