That switching power supply is a piece of c**p. First, it generates noise back into the 120v line. Secondly, this power supply has no right to be in any high-end audio system. The dc it supplies is high in ripple, and high in noise. I speak from experience, as I replaced two similar units which were inside my two Quantum Symphony Pro units.
Since I like to solder, I made a new linear ps with low noise diodes, a pi filter, quality film caps, a lastly a low noise regulator. There is simply no comparison at all between ps's.
Instead of doing a lot of soldering, a very easy way to tell would be to use a 12v lead acid battery with a film cap across the pos & neg. I believe you will be shocked what battery power will bring to the table...

Hi and thanks a lot for the very interesting and valuable advice.
I do not have the MF but i do have a Dacmagic 100 with which i have tried a 12VDC linear ps with good results.
Let's say that to try costs very little money.
I think that the battery option is also very interesting.
But a traditional ps is more practical ... and can provide a clean enough voltage.
Also when the mains are dirty the ps is fundamental to suppress noise from the mains.More in general i would like to see more good quality caps in strategic places in these cheap dacs.
Like one quite big at the dc socket input ... some around the chips ...
Thanks again.
Kind regards,

They price their merchandise by the ounce for their China post. Transformers are too heavy, so most electronics have these tiny switching supplies included, which really should be just throw aways when you receive them.
Hi and thanks for the valuable advice.
I like a lot the solution of a separate power supply.
And there is an opportunity also for some DIY.
Kind regards,
