Yes nothing new to parallel Dac chips, my second Dac a Valab, used multiple chips....probably a decade ago. However, this is new for Sabre Dacs....which is the jist of my post.
All this being said, I purchased a dual Sabre dac awhile ago and don't really notice a huge difference above the single Sabre-chip Dacs I've owned.
To be more accurate, what I "DO" notice in a multi-chip Sabre dac is greater stereo separation and some benefits in soundstage.

DAC chips are the new "Watts per channel" ! (Or rather talking about them)Or it could just be I'm the only poster here that doesn't know exactly
every single part in what ratio is needed to design the perfect circuit
that everyone will agree sounds superior to all other designs !

Good point as excellent DAC chips have been commodities for quite a while now.
There have been DAC chip improvements along the way but it's what the designer does with the chip and supporting components that is more important than the chip itself.
I don't buy DACs based on what chip is inside. I buy and keep DACs based on how they sound to me.
The only real truth about anything in this hobby is that values are subjective to your own personal experiences.
It's been proven time & again the quality of anything is more about knowing
what to implement to achieve the result you're looking ! How things respond
in theory only goes so far.
(I just spent too much time viewing interviews with Guitar Makers on YouTube;I had to stop,as it started becoming depressing viewing all the
innovative creativeness that I didn't pursue many years ago)

Guess I am guilty of both.
I have an affinity for PCM1704 dac chips and have an interest in what people can do with the Sabre chip. So I am a sucker for an intriguing design for either of the two.
Besides that, I also purchase Dacs based on a manufacturers proven record. Hence the Yaqin Dac K-9....crazy good Dac with a totally unknown chip and USB interface.

I think Dacs and Computer audio saved the high end market.
Out of all the gear I have owned, the number of Dacs is far greater than anything else. Second only to computers.

This is because of both items tendency to become obsolete.

Headphones too.
I agree, as I look over at 4+ pairs of headphones that see little usage.
They sound good though...:-)

Headphones - there are times when what they do well seems like a revelation. At other times, I just can't bear to keep the music contained within those two earcups.
Hey, I feel like a relevant part of the hypnotized masses now that I'm
aware of this ! I support all three of these !
Ain't we having fun ? (Even though we're always on the upgrade treadmill)
