You have a very nice system. Consider an upgrade on your pre-amp, first.
I would get either an ARC Ref3 SE or Ref5 SE for openers.
Follow Ups:
Right now the weakest link in my system seems to be the digital source, at least based on my listening satisfaction. So that is what I want to improve.
However, I did a little research on your preamp suggestion and the consensus appears to be not that great of improvement for the dollar (see link ). I think I'll stick with my plan.
You really do have a nice system, if I come in to some real money, I'd have the Vandersteens on my short list. I've heard some of their better models at dealer demos, always with ARC. Sound was very good.
I'm kind of in your position too, except my Oppo 83SE is too old to mod. I'm thinking of replacing my dac with a Mytek. I need all the digital inputs, and I ordered a de-embedder for the HDMI output on the Oppo.
It appears to be the same one as the Kanex. And I would get USB to dip my big old toe into PC audio.[Their is a lot to learn, for that to work right, or maybe I am making it more difficult, then it is. So many options.]
For me $1500 is my budget limit, I have considered used, but have not found anything I can afford, that fits the bill.
I like my Camelot, but the 75ohm input died, I was running the Oppo in to use as a transport for redbook. Basically using the Oppo only for other sources, and HDCD.
