My Marantz has a USB input on the front panel for use with an Ipod/Iphone/flash drive.... and a USB-B on the back. What I'd like to do is connect my ipod so I can use it from my listening chair through the wonderful DAC on the SA8005. I purchased a 15 ft USB extension to connect with the 2 ft Ipod cable. Won't work. I get 'check device' on the Marantz. It does work with just the 2 ft Apple cable alone. I thought it might be the extension cable, or the fact that it doesn't have a repeater, but it works fine when a flash drive is hooked up and I'm able to play wave files through it. I looked for a 15 ft ipod cable but they're too hard to find.
I also want to run my Itunes from my computer in the same listening room to the Marantz. For this I purchased a 25 ft USB-B cable but this time with a repeater on it. The computer is Windows XP and was unable to download the driver because of compatibility issues with XP(according to the warnings I got during the download). Has anybody been successful in using the USB inputs on their SA8005? GREAT cd player otherwise, I really like it. Just wish I could use it for everything :-(
Follow Ups:
it must be a problem with the apple device if you can get other things to work no problem. Probably how it is designed.
I tried my other ipods with the cable. My Classic works in direct mode where you control the songs from the Marantz, which is useless, but my little 6th gen Nano works great! My 4th gen Nano just won't work with anything other than the short cable. All three ipods work differently when using the extension cable. Would purchase an ipod touch if i knew it would work :-(
you have good luck then with your quest. Last iPod I had was the nano 2gb and I gave that away quickly, I am not a fan of Apple ...
Good luck with your mission,
I've had great luck with all three of my ipods. The Classic with the hard drive in it has frozen up a couple of times. I just let the battery die completely and then it seemed to reset itself after i recharged it. my other nanos have been nice. Might try an Ipod touch if it'll work with the Marantz. The screen is a little bigger and it would make a better 'digital server' :-) Never really looked at other players.
