Hi thanks a lot for the very helpful reply.
Do you mean that the weight of the transport could be much higher for the overall result ?
This is important to me to establish because i will know in what direction to go for an upgrade.
I have been quite captured by all these discussion about dacs that i have forgotten the transport side ... maybe very wrongly.
Garbage in garbage out.Actually i have a very simple test to carry out in the weekend.
I have a Squeezebox Touch said to have a good quality digital out.
I will test it against my pc source.
If the SBT will be superior, like i guess, and the result will be satisfactory i will look more at the transport side for sure.
Thanks again for your advice.
Kind regards,
bg

HiWell the weight of the transport but also its general design, the way it'll transmit data to the DAC, etc...
All I know is that Esoteric with VRDS Neo CDPs soundstage like nothing else I've heard. Considering they use DACs other manufacturers use, I'm assuming the transport, which is proprietary, must be a big part of their sound. It's quite something.
That being said, a reasonably good design should give you a great soundstage, you don't need to fork out crazy money. I've always achieved good soundstaging with various designs. But nothing like Esoteric's.
Also, soundstage is one thing, you have to like the other components of the sound of a player obviously. And if you're into computer audio then then transport question is virtually moot, or of a different nature.

Hi and thanks a lot again
I think i have complicated my life when i abandoned the cd player
Because reasonably good cd players are not that rare or very expensive
Deciding for the transport + dac solution introduces other variables
Much more than moving from an integrated amp to a pre plus power combination
I will try the SBT because i read is a decent transport
Thanks again
Kind regards,
bg
