This is the way to "perfect sound forever"
Really?

Des,
However a good recording without dynamics compression and other fiddling around as in the HIFI era of the fifties can sound palatable on CD, the difference between analogue and digital is only relevant for real music lovers.
Most people go for convenience and clear listening in their car and that's how CD's are made, not for HiFi consious minority.
I heartily agree with every word!

You know your stuff.
Apart from this all low level frequencies above say 3000 Hz have a very low resolution on CD.
Max. level 0 dB 16 bit.
-18 dB 13 bit
-30 dB 11 bit
-42 dB 9 bit Here and lower are the low level harmonics responsiblefor the naturalness of the instruments, vocals. Resolution comparable to a musical christmas soundpostcard or a childrens toy.
Vinyl, tape all have a unlimited "resolution" at all frequencies and levels.
So what are they talking about. CD is for convenience in the car, in the kitchen, in the garden when the barbecue is ready.
