I have a few of them, but they all need a little work, so I haven't gotten around to putting them in the system. I have a collection of vintage CD players that I got for free or almost free, since most people regard them as trash. I don't. I have a working Magnavox FD-1000 that I use on my test bench, but it does not sound very good. (IMO!)

Where can I get a LASER for my FD-1000?
I'd LOVE to hear it compared to more modern stuff:

It uses the CDM-0 drive mechanism. There is a service manual online. It is possible yours could be serviced.

start watching eBay for openers.
Funny thing is, that I 'retired' the Magnavox for a newer used Denon, that I picked up cheap at a yard sale.
The Denon sounded lifeless compared to the Magnavox.
So OUT went the Denon, and back IN went the Magnavox.
The Denon is now in my tone deaf son's system.
