I have been looking at transports for my CD collection.Started out as transports only, then moved on to the "memory readers".
Any experience with them and their merits?MSB data/umt with various power supplies or..?
Thanks in advance for the experiences and advice.

Follow Ups:
Was about to pull the trigger on the PS PWT,then the prices dropped.Even the dealers are offering them at just above cost.Any idea what is going on??
Felt the MSB Data CD 4 was a better investment,so I bought one.Now I understand that the model may be discontinued because the UMT Plus is more "universal".Oh well.It is tough to stay up with technology and its' cutting edge price.
A BIG Thank You to everyone who lent their assistance.

Would I be correct in assuming that the Z-Systems unit (RDP-1) would be out of place,if pusuing either the PS PWT or MSB Data cd4 units?
Anybody have an interest in a good condition RDP-1??

Tomcat-
look into a C.E.C. player.
Yes,it should have a digital out.Currently using S/PDIF from transport to a Z-systems RDP and AES/EBU to the DAC.Would like to have the AES/EBU available on the transport(my preferred).
Are the MSB and PS PWT the only units to consider??
Is this a passing phase or the "future"?
Can anyone comment on the sound quality of these units and whether this is the way> > sampling to a memory circuit prior to output.
Lastly-is the I2S far superior to either S/PDIF or AES/EBU?
I am finding the S/Pdif cables vary quite a bit more than the AES/EBU cables-more flavors, but ,still prefer balanced.
Thank you for all the information presented so far. Please continue with the assistance.

Is a memory transport. I have never, and really like it.

with a digital out.
Haven't found it yet, but it is on my to-build list: Unfortunately, still quite a way down after new DAC, new pre-amp, additional power amp, new loudspeakers to buy.
An Oppo BDP-105 would be on your radar: digital file playback, shiny disc playback, great DAC, AND preamp functions...

The MSB Data CD is in house.I am shocked at the lack of distortion and harmonic palette this unit offers. If I had known that a memory player would sound this good,I would have switched earlier.
I am finding that I prefer the AES-EBU connections:trans> RDP-1 and RDP> > DAC.It provides me with a better top-end and soundstage
My Reference CDs sound just that way now.Back to analog updating-the never-ending spiral.
