Laser it stays completely closed. I can hear it trying to open but it doesn't.

Does it have a belt? If so, did you check it. I fixed a Mission player with this problem with an O-ring from the hardware store. I think it cost 20 cents, and was a much better part than what I replaced.

Yes, exactly! Probably something simple like a belt.
At a high level it can be broken down into two possibilities...
1) The drawer is never commanded to open because an operation that must occur prior to the drawer opening has not finished properly (ie. When you push the eject button a basic sequence of events has to happen. First the CD stops spinning; Second the Spindle mechanism releases the CD; Third, the draw opens ... something is going wrong early in this sequence, so master controller is forever waiting for the previous operation to finish before it can send the "open drawer" command).
2) The drawer is actually commanded to open, but something is preventing in ... like the belt is broken (thanks Crazy Dave!), or the door is jamming.
Try observe and listen closely with the above thoughts in mind. Maybe it will help lead you down the right path.
Also... since it is such a high-end player, perhaps Marantz will work with you even if it is out of warranty. If would think they would view you as a premium customer! :)
