In Reply to: RE: OPPO 105 - need to format SSD - but which format? posted by Lesage on February 08, 2015 at 09:20:20
Thanks for the note.
I've not checked the specs on my OCZ SSD. I bought 3 OCZ drives about 3 years ago and then discovered a year later that OCZ had some fairly serious quality issues. But I can't say I've experienced any.
But perhaps one of those quality issues is this SSD requires maybe a tad more power than the usual?
Someday I'll purchase a larger SSD by another mfg'er and I'll be mindful of the current drawing specs.
I was surprised that disabling the very bright ext. case light made matters worse.
Anyway, I just purchased on eBay a 2.0 ext SSD enclosure so we'll see if that works with this drive next week sometime.

Personnally I would not put any beleif upon the lack of power supply, as a SSD has lower requirements
While not likely the cause of his problems, testing for this possibility is simple enough with the $5 Y cable I mentioned. Some SSDs can consume more power than the 5v 1000mA available via the Oppo USB port.
Abe, just wanted to drop you (and the others) a note that today I received my external SSD case for USB 2.0 only and it works with the same SSD drive without issue.
So it seems that it was my external case with USB 3.0 only interface that was the cause and/or its voltage requirements.
I also received a Y-USB cable that someday I'll try with the external USB 3.0 only case and my guess that too will work but I'll save that for another time.
Thanks again for your help here.
And thanks for dropping us the note to let us know.
Thanks, Abe and Lesage.
Abe, I've got a USB 2.0 only ext drive case enroute and comes with a Y USB cable.
So I'll be able to confirm the power thing.
At present, the same SSD is working with my USB 2.0 disk duplicator cable.
I'll post what happens. Thanks again for working with me here.
