And if so, in which forum? I'd like to follow. Mostly the using the miniDSP units as an XO part.
I like miniDSP products, but they do require some time and effort. They really are meant for enthusiasts, and seem to be designed by people who are not only enthusiasts, but practical and knowledgable experienced ones.
I have never considered converting my analog signals to digital and using a "digital preamp". Quite the opposite actually, even though I have the setup/means to do it either way. I went to a minor amount of trouble to keep the analog and digital sources separated, when it makes sense to me i.e. minimize unnecesary format conversions.
You are using REW or similar, right? Pointless to use a miniDSP unit without it IMO. And REW specifically is miniDSP-friendly.
Follow Ups:
Yes, I will. But this will not happen until Oct/Nov as the new subs will be provided for my new house - which won't be finished until then.
The guy that is making the subs (sealed, with 15" Dayton Ultimax driver & 800w Hypex plate amp) was going to use miniDSP just to provide the sub LP roll-off ... and room correction for the LFs. But then he said I would need to delay the Maggie bass drivers, to match the subs - which means I have to delay all 3 Maggie drivers, so I need to use the miniDSP unit as the XO, in place of my analogue XO (with delay on each driver).
And, yes, the guy is an exponent of REW. :-))
Re. " unnecessary format conversions " - sure, I agree the minimum is ideal. But running my 2 digital sources through my preamp means that already they have gone through a digital-to-analogue conversion inside the CDP and DAB+ tuner ... then they go through the reverse, when they go into the miniDSP unit! My vinyl output goes through one analogue-to-digital conversion when it goes into the miniDSP unit - so it seemed to me I could do this conversion straight after the phono stage (with a quality A2D unit - better than the one in the miniDSP) and then the 3 digital signals could be dealt with (in terms of source selection & volume) by a digital preamp?

Andy
Ok, I see what you are doing. I've never fooled around with room correction so I am pretty dumb when it comes to this. Delaying the woofers to match the subs makes sense and then you have to time align the mid and tweeters - pretty complicated. So one more question -- I thought you had some Rythmik servo subs (on a 2nd system) so why not use them in the new home or is that still a WAF problem?
and I like it very much, neo.
But my goto sub guy says these 15" Ultimax will go deeper than the 12" Rythmik drivers. :-))
(So I hope they do, to justify the vastly greater cost!
Regards,
Andy
