Very cool, i guess they join MSB in a very elite group making their own R2R DACs... now if they would only use a great tube output stage...
Reminds me a bit of the inside of my Kinergetics DAC with its two rather large UltraAnalog modules.

I think Audio Note (UK) is doing the same thing at the moment. The first product will be released early next year, hopefully.
They take the output right of the dac chips. No output stage at all. I think this is a big part of how could these type dacs sound. Besides I go straight into a tube preamp so don't really need a tube output stage. My AudioNote has a tube output stage and the Hex sounds much better

I have an Audio Note DAC 3.1x/II Balanced and have listened to the Metrum Hex in my system.
IMO, the Audio Note DAC is much more natural sounding (in terms of musical flow), if less revealing of treble detail.
I could speculate as to the reason for this but since I'm not technically qualified I will refrain from doing so!
(BTW, I have also listened at length to two Lampizator DACs, as they are apparently NOS designs, and reached the same conclusion re their performance.)
