Bluetooth is a standard.
Hence all Bluetooth devices are compatible but of course they must share the same profile.
The problem is not the BT part but the output.
The CA BT dongle plugs into the USB.
Hence there must be a USB driver in the DM.
The question is if this driver copes with non CA USB Dongles.
If it doesn't you probably won't have the option to install one.

I'm sorry, Rose. This isn't exactly helpful. Let me try again.
My CADACMagic+ has an optional BT dongle plugging into a dedicated USB port. Can CA 'rig' it so that it will ONLY use a CA dongle? Other companies, including Emotiva have such dongles and sell 'em for 1/2 the price or less. No question of BT dongle drivers in the DM. Are they CA specific would be the question, I guess?
They ALL are advertised as apt-x and the profile A2DP. The last? fairly common, while apt-x is less so, but supported by Apple and many others. I think this means that my iMac will work at the highest quality with EITHER dongle, provided the dongle will work with the DacMagic+
Too much is never enough
Both are possible.
Another USB device might need another driver
CA can rig it to accept their own dongle only
Ask CA or buy a dongle with money back guaranteed
A2DP is the standard audio profile
APTx is a different codec
