I think it's an excellent DAC for the price. I prefer it over these DACs I once had in my system:
Wyred4Sound DAC2
Wavelength Brick v3
Luxman DA-06
Lynx Hilo
Apogee Mini DAC
The Wavelength and Luxman are more on the warm / soft side IMHO. I prefer a more neutral, detailed, and transparent sound from the DAC followed by some tube magic in the amplification. ;-)
Good luck!

Abe......What don't you like about the Wyred Dac2? I have the dac1 and was thinking about upgrading to the dac 2 dsd. What do you like better about the PS Audio?
"Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells."
I thought the W4S DAC2 was excellent. It was very comparable to the PS Audio NuWave DAC but the NuWave sounded ever so slightly more transparent and resolving.... but just barely. The DAC2 was a little more robust sounding in the mids and lower but again.... just barely.
Of course the DAC2 is much more versatile with it's remote control input switching and volume control where the NuWave is very basic.
The one thing that bugged me about the W4S DAC2 that I could never get around, and this may not matter to you, is that the audio through it was out of sync with video when I used the DAC for concert videos, music videos, and movies. The other DACs that I had were always perfectly in sync including the PS Audio NuWave.
I don't know if the newer DACs from W4S have this issue..... which is only an issue if you plan to use it with audio as well as video as I did.
