Is anyone familiar with Musical Fidelity A-1008 CD player?
Here is the link:

This is apparently an older (pre-2009) model sold as "new" at half the [then] retail price.
The newer model has a Philips Pro transport and a plastic cover which slides back and forth (which resembles some Chinese players).
I wonder if it would be a considerable upgrade as compared to my Cary 308T CD player.
Follow Ups:
Tough call- even though Cary does not support cd/dvd players any longer, I still enjoy these spinners.
Yes, and so the Cary CD308T is a keeper - it it so warm and natural!
Earlier this year I heard a Cary DVD7 or DVD8 spinner and was impressed w/ its sound on CD!
Avoid Musical Fidelity.
newer products, yes.
All I can say is once you've ripped all your CDs to your hard drive, you'll wonder why you even considered spending any money at all on a CD player when all you need is a good DAC.
Good luck,
John Elison
There were claims about technical and sonic advantages of not using SPDIF or USB cables.SPDIF or USB can be jittery compared to internal connection inside a CDP. USB often shows anomalous behavior.
"all you need is a good DAC." Are you really sure?
There are many odd things in digital audio equipment. For example, see the playback of CBS CD-1 track 16 by a Sony CDP here.

Then see the playback of CBS CD-1 track 16 by Benchmark DAC1 HDR DA converter, a very good converter, here.

I don't know anything about either one of those components you reference. All I know is that when I replaced my Stello CDT-100 transport with a computer music server, all my ripped CDs sound as good or better from my computer connected to the same Eximus DP1 DAC. You could never convince me to go back to playing CDs with an argument about better sound quality. I've heard the difference and its in favor of the computer music server.
Best regards,
John Elison
