It's one of the reasons that I like physical media - and their playing equipment. More often than not, they can be repaired and don't become obsolete like yesterday's file formats (or this morning's) and seemingly randomly generated playback workflows.

do not become obsolete.
Whatever makes you happy.
I try to stay as close to the analogue domain as I can - or, in the case of digital, keep away from as much processing and discombobulation as is possible. As far as I'm concerned, IT is here to serve me, not the other way around.

Excellent tips guys!
Had the same issue with a Marantz CD player years ago and did the same thing to fix the problem. Regarding lubricating the rails, I used a very low viscosity oil. Watchmaker's oil has been recommended in the past. You want to avoid a grease that may eventually harden and not let the laser mechanism move freely on the rail.
R Browne, I took your advice and reopened the transport and lubed the rails with a low viscosity synthetic oil (Liquid Bearings. The tray sounds more quiet opening and closing than with the white lithium grease. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks R. Browne. I used a very little bit of VPI super magic bearing lube which has PTFE micro balls in it. I use this for the main bearing in my VPI turntable. I was debating to use that or Liquid Bearings, which is a very high quality light synthetic oil. The various google pages I read mostly said to use a grease like white lithium. Hopefully it won't harden. If it does i will clean it off and use the oil.
