that has volume control. Theoretically, you could use is as a stand alone source to amp since it decodes most everything.

So i assume that the volume control is not affecting the sound quality ?
At this stage i am also interested in Sony ES series players
I am just looking for a musical sound ... not surely high end.

Not theoretically, actually a lot of folks connect an Oppo 105 directly to amps with good result. Analog stereo from my 105 goes to a Parasound JC-2 BP, surround directly to amps, sub to LF acoustic room correction. The JC-2 is used to accommodate an Ayre C-5xeMP, Sony XA5400ES, and JC-3 phono stage in addition to the Oppo.
