It appears to be designed to be a very good stand alone player that is NOS (probably the same digital section as in the DAC) with transformer I/V conversion and a discrete Jfet output stage.
So, yes they seem to use the DAC then as a tube buffer/preamplifier of sorts.

I'm sure I'd love it and w/o seeing it I like it. They do call it a transport which is fine. I just don't know anyone else doing this or anyone even with a DAC that allows bypassing the D/A. It even turns off the power to the digital section when the 5 pin connector is used which as you say just uses the analog section. Odd, unique or whatever words they were not used with a negative intent.

"CDT -100 is YPSILON’s top loader cd player/transport."
"The CDT 100 is a stand-alone product which will outperform many highly regarded separate Transport and Dac combinations. It carries a Spdif out put so it can be linked to any outboard DAC. But for ultimate performance, which will astonish all who encounter the combination, then via the 5 pin output to the Ypsilon DAC-100. Truly, a world class combination.
CDT-100 contains a non oversampling DAC , with multi bit Burr Brown dac chips.Power supply regulation for the dac is only with shunt regulators.
The current output of the DAC chips is level shifted in the current domain and through an in house manufactured c-core transformer becomes a voltage signal directly at the nextgen output connectors. No feedback is used and only one low noise S-E class A jfet is involved in the signal path. Purity and transparency is the result,so when inserted in a SET system then one can fully appreciate the full sonic glory.
"
They never claim it is just a transport. The DAC becomes just a very expensive and elaborate output stage for the transport/player.
You would think that maybe they would offer that output stage for the player for less money if they eliminate all the digital part completely but they opted for only one machine offering.
I'm not complaining and would love to be able to afford the set. It is still odd/different/unique.

Yes I read that. It is the first sentence in the product description. But the title in large font bold of that product is:
CDT-100 CD TRANSPORT
Again no bigee, I like it.
