I very much agree with you and I think you nailed it.
I for one am starting to lose interest.
I am thrilled with the Simudio MiND and the SOtM Mini Server is excellent at $450.

During normal operation do you use the MiND over Wifi or hardwired ethernet?
I am still thrilled with my Squeezebox Touch!
Cut-Throat
and the deal breaker for me is that to make musical program in the Aires apparently you create a playlist. This in not a bad thing in it's self. However it is not how I listen. With a large collection I prefer the LMS program that allows one to choose any of the genres that you have enabled or named singly or in any combo you may be keen to listen to and then to shuffle between them in random order. I like the element of surprise.
With close to 150,000 songs on the HD it is hard to think of any particular series of plays......
