you can't build a "reference" system with a MAC mini IMO.
Seems to me that making an assumption that digital file playback with a commercial computer is somehow equal to SOTA TTs and SOTA CD/Universal players or transports/DACs is just silly.
I've never heard of anyone who owns an APL, DCS, Meitner, or Audio Aero say that they can get computer/digital file playback to get anywhere near them spinning CDs. Some of these people have the distinct advantage of running a highly modified and upgraded commercial PC directly into their transport/DAC creating an excellent and easy A/B test.

Well obviously that's just your opinion. But I have to disagree I'm getting world-class sound from a Mac Mini and an outboard dac. Do you have a Mac Mini properly set up with good a good dac and software like Audirvana totally just set up just for music. I have an SME10a with a benz Lp it is incredible but the computer audio can sound just as good and it's a lot more convenient. Also the mac mini setup is a lot cheaper. Sme with cart 15k mac with keyboard and track pad 800 us dollars and dac 300 software 74 dollars and cables 50 dollars for a grand total of 1,224.00. If you have not heard one setup right can you make that opinion!

And I have Kuzma Statbi M with 4Point arm and Dynavector XV-1s cartridge. No digital, even mine, can hold a candle against it.
What I am trying to say here is that every audiophile has a reference, until there is another reference. :-)
For the record, I also had a MacMini but sold it. Now I have MacBook Pro with the latest Audirvana Plus installed on it (version 1.5.12). This setup can basically be viewed as a MacMini with a battery power supply, but the charge pumps on the MoBo remain, and there is nothing one can really do about it. :-)
It is not just that it sounds much worse compared to my computer with all-linear power supply running Win Server 2012 R2 in core mode with Audio Optimizer on it, but it also cannot hold a candle against my digital transport, not to talk about the above mentioned vinyl rig. :-)
Moral of the story - upgrade your vinyl. :-)

I said it can sound as good. Thats it just making a point digital can sound as good as analog thats all i was trying to SAY! My friend has a rig twice as expensive as yours. Thats not the point digital can be as good or better than records its the recording thats all. And vise versa. I have records and the recording on digital is better than the the record and i have records that sound better than the digital recording thats why i have both formats. You don't experience that?

As I said, you need to upgrade your vinyl. And if your friend with the twice more expensive vinyl rig than mine feels the same way too, he needs to also upgrade it. :-)
I must admit that I thought the same way like you in the past, but this Kuzma setup and the following inspiration to design my own phonostage changed the game completely. But I am grateful that I own such a reference analog setup so I can develop digital that sounds as close to it as possible, and believe me, this is not easy at a all. :-)
Hope this explains my position.

"I've never heard of anyone who owns an APL, DCS, Meitner, or Audio Aero say that they can get computer/digital file playback to get anywhere near them spinning CDs."Spend some more time here - I read all the time from some of the makers that their digital from a laptop is vastly better than the best CD players and turntables.
I suppose the good news is the other day I was in HMV in near downtown high rent district Hong Kong and saw the huge amounts of vinyl being sold and no digital download card (not one) for sale. There was a large section of many shelves of vinyl. In the busiest mall in central a small shop selling dvd/bluray and audiophile recording CDs another massive section (given their floorspace) 1/3 of the floorspace was selling brand new vinyl from new artists across all genres. I gotta get me a turntable here.

PCs (and MACs) are too noisy for SOTA, and waaaay costly.
And you can't eliminate "charge pumps"

Isn't this the truth. :-)
