Hey all.
I have a non-working Nakamichi OMS-5A II CD player. It was working great, but sat for quite a while and now will not spin up and play a CD. I removed the cover and observed it's behavior. The tray opens and closes fine, but the CD just sits there motionless for a couple of seconds and then it spits out the CD.
I also removed the bottom cover and the belt does look rather loose. I don't know if it's supposed to be loose, though. Maybe it needs a belt? It's probably the original belt.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Bob :-)
Follow Ups:
You can probably replace it with a cheap o-ring from the local hardware store. I have fixed a couple of CD players in this manner for less than a dollar.
Naturally this would have to be with the cover off and the unit plugged in. Press Play to close the drawer..
If the unit starts the CD when you 'help' it along.. Then a new belt might be the ticket.
Or it might be some other problem.
Even the wiring from the laser sled (or to the motor) might just need a wiggle.

The CD doean't take off when helped along, so I'll check the laser wiring next.
Thanks,
Bob :-)
Can the bottom plate be removed so you can see the motor and platter assembly. I have repaired a number of those with belts. A number of the drawer mechanisms also open and close with belts.
