OK, even tho I quit Itunes , the File I get is an AIFF with the ITunes Logo-is That Lossless?
I should probably get the JRiver Software.
What about copying DSD Files from my recorder, does JRiver do that too, or some other Program you know of?
Follow Ups:
AIFF is Apples version of Uncompressed Lossless.
If it is a Korg recorder that you are using it's just a matter of attaching the Korg to your PC
with a USB cable & waiting until the Computer recognizes the new USB device. Go to where
all your drives are listed & open up this new drive. From there it is like what you do on any other drive on your computer.
If none of this applies to the recorder that you have you might want to see if you can track
down Ted B. Ted appears to be the "go to guy" on matters DSD. You can try to find him on
"Hi-Rez", but more often than not he seems to be more"visible" over on the "Audiocircle"
I wonder if J River might be a good thing to get,
but their web site said the newest version can be unstable, so I need oget an older one, which they still have available.
Need to find out more.
Thanks again!
Suggest you audition JRiver for yourself- as it has a 30 day free trial period. You can disable many of its features you won't use, also.
I don't know if you've tried Foobar 2000, but even though it's free, and we have the pleasure of paying for JRiver, I've found that I just can't listen to the sound of JRiver. Sounds like a synthesizer to me, even with settings chosen to be as close as possible to the settings in my Foobar and PlayPcmWin programs (I now even prefer PlayPcmWin a bit over Foobar), both of which sound much better to me than JRiver.
JRiver may have lots of bells and whistles bloat (fancy GUI options, does more than just play music, etc.), if that's your thing, but when it comes to playing music, I won't touch JRiver anymore, even though I paid $50 for it.
Just one person's opinion.
By the way, you can play DSD files via both Foobar and PlayPcmWin.
A few of my comments regarding these players in the computer audio forum:
DSD Discs made with Korg Audio Gate fir HiRez and DSD File Playback.
I want to get a Sony Z1 File Player, and have been wondering
If the way I copy CDs and DSD Files from my Recorder is really the best way,
maybe some other Program just for Copying to Desktop, to then load into the Sony.
It seems that what I've been doing is fine, and that I don't really need anything else.
If you do decide to get the Sony (HAP-Z1ES) you really would have very little (if any) to
get a "software" player for your Computer.
99% of all the music I listen to is processed or generated through my Computer, 0% of it is
played back through my Computer. I use an Auraliti PK100 Digital File Player to play the files from external USB drives or a USB thumbdrive occasionally .
I look at my Computer as great peripheral "tool" to generate the music to play through
my "Audio" system . I'm just not that interested in making my Computer the "hub" of my
system, I don't see the necessity to change what works for me.
