Well, if you spend another $50 it will buy you a new non usb Schiit Bifrost, for an additional $100 ($449) you can have a Bifrost with usb, and another $70 ($519) gets you all that plus the "uber" analog board.
Not only that, but the Schiit is completely upgradable so you can upgrade as your budget allows.
Just my 2 cents.

And for $181 more he can have the PS Audio NuWave DAC, which some have reported to sound slightly better than the tricked out Schiit. ;-)
But for $300, I supposed the Ultralink 2 isn't such a bad deal. However, if it were my money, I'd buy a newer generation of DAC.
Abe;
I PM'd you the other day - don't know if you got to it.
I would love to hear a mini review of the Nuwave from you as you seem to have a very broad based knowledge of audio and have owned a wide variety of gear.
I can pick up a new Nuwave for $750, but there has not been a lot written in the way of reviews.
I have a Schiit Bifrost at the moment that is a very nice piece of gear, but I think it could have too much of the same sonic signature of my amp; Which is to say full, slightly warm and sweet. I was thinking that the PS Audio may be a better yin/yang match - dunno????
The amp is getting the Mikey Samra treatment at this time, but should retain it's over all full sonic character.
How long have you had your Nuwave? How does it sound compared to other dacs you have tried etc...
Thanks for any of your thoughts.

I don't often check my email account that is associated with my Audio Asylum profile. Sorry if I missed your PM. I'll reply here briefly.
There's an inmate who frequents the Computer Audio asylum and he commented that he preferred his NuWave DAC over the Schiit Bifrost. I don't recall his moniker.
My main comparison is against the highly regarded Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2 ($1500), not the latest W4S DAC-2 DSD or DSDse.
The W4S DAC-2 is excellent but in my setup I thought the NuWave was more resolving, a bit more transparent, and provided better detail. The W4S DAC-2 was slightly warmer, richer, and a tad bit darker. IMHO, the DAC-2 is excellent overall but might be an even better match for a system that is on the slightly bright side.
I was simply hearing more and with better clarity out of the NuWave DAC.... and it's about half the (street) price of the W4S DAC-2. In fairness to the DAC-2, it offers more features than the basic PS Audio NuWave, if those features are important to you.
As an aside, and this may not be important to others, I used W4S DAC-2 not only for music but also for movies and concert videos. I could never get the audio and video 100% in sync using the W4S DAC-2 but the NuWave was always perfectly in sync.
