I am considering buying a lower cost DAC to compliment my two CD decks. One is a McIntosh 7007 and the other is a Yamaha CDC 697.
The DACs I am looking at are the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 and the Musical Fidelity V-DAC. Both of which are selling in the $350 range. My MC7007 has only RCA outputs, while the Yamaha has RCA as well as optical outputs.
Which of these DACs do you think would be the better performer? Or is there a better performer in the same general price range?
Thanks!

In that price range I would take a serious look at the MHDT Paradisea NOS tube DAC, which goes for about $350 used. Add a NOS 6n3p-DR tube for about $10 off eBay and smile! Or spring for a Bendix 2c51 if you want a little more luxury to the sound.
Philips TDA1541A S1 - single crown.
Philips CDM1 transport.
Refresh it. Upgrade the caps around the DAC, consider having someone make it NOS and upgrading the output stage. Oscons around the transport and laser.
This would push it in the direction of Zanden, AMR, Marantz's CD7 and others. Would like kill the competition in the sub $400 stakes in terms of sonic improvements.

I have the USB DAC from Scott Nixon and am very happy with its performance and ease of use.
I was torn between the Bifrost and the Grant Fidelity TubeDAC 11. Ended up choosing the Grant Fidelity because of its versatility and the fact that I had about a dozen ANOS 6DJ8's and 6922's sitting in a box doing nothing. The Grant Fidelity also has its own volume pot with which I find easier to set volume levels than the pot on my pre-amp. It simply advances the gain more gradually with a wider adjustment range. A decent digital cable is also included in the package. I like the Grant Fidelity a lot, but I don't think I would have been disappointed by the Bifrost either.

Did you try to ask Mac!!

Hide it~ nothing looks better in Audio gear, than invisible....
It is hard to have any idea of which is a better one with so many popping up in the past few years.
Same problem with cables. In taht situation i vote for a reputable maker, on who has been around for awhile.
Though i am certain some of the little guys make a good product... tough to know which is which.
I sit with my ten year old DAC and am satisfied.

Your link took me to Monster.com, not Schitt audio.
Are you suggesting that I should buy a piece of Schitt?
; )
They have some excellent reviews for the money, and we aren't Schitting you.
The forum magically put that link there.

I just purchased the CIA VDA2 and VPC1 this is really an excellent sounding DAC combo.
Not heard much about this one lately. There was a used one on Agon in your price range.
A simple design it goes past the Benchmark DAC1, Audio dg NFB2 I had in the past.
The problem with any recommendation you have to listen to them in your system.
Important because the same DAC may perform different in various systems.

I'm using two separate Schiit Bifrost DACs - one in the main system, and one in the computer "desktop" system. They do seem to require a long break-in period, but I must say, I'm really enjoying the results!
In the main system, I'm using a coax digital cable ($350 version of Bifrost), and for the computer system, I needed the USB input option, so this one cost an additional $100 ($450).
Both feed tubed preamps (separate preamp in main system, and tubed preamp section of hybrid integrated in desktop system), and I'm enjoying the sound I'm hearing from both systems.
+1 for the Bifrost.
Great DAC - and punches above its weight in the $350 category.
If you are willing spend more, then I'd recommend the Rega DAC.
