hello all
i have been on the look out for a DAC to complement my rig
my setup includes
PSB image bookshelves B15
NAD 325 bee amp
5000UP 10awg belden(blue jeans) speaker cable
Kimber Ic's (i forget the model no. since it was a gift from a fellow hi fier)
heres what i would want from my source/dac
i have a lot of flac files and a few cds hence im not to sure about going out an out for a CDP and condiereing a DAC which may add flexibilty in playing diff formats
now my setup sound i,e the PSB NAD combo , currently is pretty laid back
ive heard a PSB and marantz amp combo , it sounded more detailed than the NAD that i have however i liked the flavour of the NAD mids more ,hence my purchase.
Now i wish to have a source(DAC) that has a more lively, detailed
( bright if you will) flavour to it like a marantz amp
i thought such a thing would complement my laid back setup better
however auditioning DAC's where i live is almost not possible ( at least the budget DAC's)
could you give some suggestions that complement my setup
Budget 275-300$
Type of muisc
classic rock - clapton,dianna krall,dire straits,alan parsons,floyd etc
i have been researching the V dac by Music Fidelity, the KECES 131 , the beresford 7520 , and the I basso D10
however i know nothing in home audio and im quite the noob
looking forward to your advice

P.S not considering a DAC magic since its out of budget unless ofcourse someone is selling me their used equip
If your computer is your transport, you are likely to get the most bang for the buck from sound cards or pro audio products. Take a look at EMU 0404 and internal sound cards like Julia@, most are well within your budget The Computer Assylum is a better place to research this.
I have the Beresford TC-7510 (Version 6) DAC. Which proceeded the 7520, which I believe now has a USB input and a little better power supply.
I can give the newer Beresford DAC's a recommendation.
It has a 30 day return offer in the event that it does not fit well with your system.
Also Frank Beresford (owner) is a great guy and very accommodating.
Originally I was using Beresford's own TC-222 coax with it, however I recently obtained an Atlas Opus. The Atlas cable cost a $124 more than the DAC!
It made a big diff. Now it has lots-o-nice delicate detail and all the other stuff audiophiles like, tight bass, sound stage.
I also tried a Nordost Shaman with it. Great top and bottom end but the mids had a big hole in them. (Guitars sounded like the backs had been cut out.)
So, if you get one I recommend budgeting in a good cable.
I wanted to give my CDs a smooth analog sound and the M.H. DAC 25.2 does the job.
I really like the Cambridge Audio Dacmagic and you can taylor the sound with the choice of three differnt Filter settings.I prefer the Linear setting. Give it a listen,I think you'll like what you hear.

I have the Musical Fidelity V-DAC and it is very good indeed. It has a beautiful, smooth midrange and nicely extended but not harsh highs. It should fit your requirements very well.
